Abqpetcarehospital in Spanaway offers an externship for veterinary students to gain valuable clinical experience alongside Associate Veterinarians. Students will participate in various tasks including patient history gathering, physical exams, and diagnostics.

An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give students the unique opportunity to understand the day‑to‑day operations of the practice, and to gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience. Students will work closely with the supervising Associate Veterinarians and will engage in gathering patient histories; performing physical exams; creating treatment plans; conducting diagnostics; providing dental services; observing, assisting, or performing surgical procedures; and managing patients medically. In addition, student externs will practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Most externship experiences at Spanaway Veterinary Clinic range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students are encouraged to participate. Students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. The stipend amount for Spanaway Veterinary Clinic is $1,500.
