St. Francis of Assisi Veterinary Medical Center offers up to a $2,500 travel stipend for 2025 clinical year externships.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital provides students with the opportunity to understand the daily operations of the practice and gain hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is unique, they all share a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians at St. Francis of Assisi Veterinary Medical Center to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, observing or assisting with surgical procedures, and managing patient care. Externs will also have opportunities to develop communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externship durations typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.
Veterinary students in the clinical phase of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click HERE to view stipend amounts and HERE for stipend program details.
