National Veterinary Associates offers a unique externship experience for 3rd and 4th-year veterinary students at their St. Simons Island hospital. Students will work closely with veterinarians to gain hands-on clinical experience, enhancing their skills in patient management, diagnostics, and communication. This externship is a valuable step in professional development, providing opportunities in a supportive environment committed to excellent animal care.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital provides veterinary students with a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of the practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is unique, all share a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and managing medical cases. Additionally, externs will have opportunities to enhance their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externship durations range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. These externships are designed for 3rd and 4th-year veterinary students.
Veterinary students in the clinical phase of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. View stipend amounts and details on the stipend program.
