Job description

Roanoke Animal Hospital Clinical Year Externship

Roanoke Animal Hospital offers up to a $2500 travel stipend for clinical year externships. The externship provides veterinary students the opportunity to understand day‑to‑day practice operations and gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience.

Students work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to:

• Gather patient histories
• Perform physical examinations
• Develop treatment plans
• Conduct diagnostics
• Provide dentistry services
• Observe, assist, or perform surgical procedures
• Manage medical care of patients
• Practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients

Externship duration ranges from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate. Housing may be available in some instances.

Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. For a list of stipend amounts and details on the stipend program, refer to the hospital's stipend information.
