An externship at an NVA hospital offers students a chance to understand daily practice operations and gain hands-on clinical experience. Each hospital is unique but shares common values: a supportive environment, commitment to excellent medicine, and providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.

Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians, gaining experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, observing or assisting in surgeries, and medical management. They will also have opportunities to enhance their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.

Externship durations range from two to eight weeks, depending on schedules. These programs are designed for 3rd and 4th-year veterinary students.
