Overview

Lathrop Veterinary Center is the first veterinary hospital in the city of Lathrop, California. We are a welcoming, state‑of‑the‑art small animal practice, led by UC Davis alumna, Dr. Cathy Wallace. At Lathrop Veterinary Center, we are the neighborhood pet care experts — combining advanced medicine with genuine compassion. Externship Experience

You’ll be part of a supportive, team‑oriented environment where collaboration and professional growth are valued. We believe in treating every patient as if they were our own — fostering strong relationships with both pets and their families. An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give students the unique opportunity to understand the day‑to‑day operations of the practice and to gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience. Students will work closely with Dr. Wallace and staff to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. In addition to practicing their clinical skills, student externs will have the opportunity to practice their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.

Schedule & Stipend

Most externship experiences range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. Externships at Lathrop Veterinary Center are designed for 3rd and 4th year students. Veterinary students who are in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend.
