Job summary

Lilley Veterinary Medical Center in Canton, MI, invites veterinary students to join as externs. Under supervision of Associate Veterinarians, you will gain hands-on experience gathering histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, and observing or assisting surgical procedures.

This externship typically lasts two to eight weeks and welcomes students from all class years.

Description & Requirements

Lilley Veterinary Medical Center is a long term practice that has been in the community since 1975 with three doctors all with at least 16 years of practicing medicine or more. One of our doctors also has an ultrasound specialty and has completed several trainings on the subject.

Students will work closely with the supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creation of treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. In addition to practicing their clinical skills, student externs will have the opportunity to practice their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.

Most externship experiences atLilley Veterinary Medical Center range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students (regardless of class year) are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.
