An externship experience at an NVA hospital offers students the opportunity to understand daily operations and gain hands-on clinical experience. Each hospital is unique but shares a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and service.

Students will work with supervising veterinarians to gain experience in patient histories, physical exams, treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, surgical procedures, and medical management. They will also develop communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.

Externship durations range from two to eight weeks, depending on schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate. Students in the clinical phase of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend, with a stipend amount of $1,500 at Summer Street Cat Clinic - Getzville.
