National Veterinary Associates offers externships for clinical-year veterinary students at their hospitals. This unique opportunity allows students to gain practical experience in veterinary medicine, including patient care and surgical assistance, while being mentored by experienced veterinarians.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital provides students with a unique opportunity to understand the daily operations of the practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is unique, they all share a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, assisting or performing surgical procedures, and managing patient care. Additionally, externs will have opportunities to enhance their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externship durations at East State Veterinary Clinic typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. These externships are designed for clinical-year veterinary students.
Veterinary students in the clinical phase of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click here to view stipend amounts and details on the stipend program.
