Job description

An externship experience at an NVA hospital provides students with the opportunity to understand the daily operations of the practice and gain hands-on clinical experience. Each NVA hospital is unique but shares common qualities: a supportive environment, a commitment to excellent medicine, and a focus on providing exceptional service to animals and their owners.

Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and managing medical cases. Additionally, externs will have the chance to develop their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.

Externship durations typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on schedules. These externships are open to 3rd and 4th-year veterinary students.

Veterinary students in the clinical phase of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click HERE to view stipend amounts and HERE for program details.
