Job summary

Animal Health Care of Marlboro offers a veterinary externship providing hands-on experience with wellness exams, dentals, and routine spays and neuters. externs work with one of three doctors, under supervision, gaining client communication and clinical skills.

Externs will participate in histories, exams, treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, and surgical observation/participation over a period of two to eight weeks; NVA externships are encouraged.

Qualifications

• Externship for veterinary students through NVA externship programs.
• Eligible to participate during clinical portion of education.

Responsibilities

• Gather patient histories and perform physical exams.
• Create treatment plans and assist with diagnostics.
• Assist or perform dental procedures and routine surgeries.
• Develop skills in medical management and client communication.

Description & Requirements

At Animal Health Care of Marlboro , we have an amazing culture and work in a fun atmosphere. Students will have the chance to have true hands-on experience with one of our three doctors. Externs will receive experience with wellness exams, dentals, and routine spays and neuters.

Students will work closely with the supervising veterinarian to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creation of treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. In addition to practicing their clinical skills, student externs will have the opportunity to practice their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.

Most externship experiences range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students (regardless of class year) are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.

Veterinary students who are in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. The stipend amoutn forAnimal Health Care of Marlboro is $1,000.
