Ingersoll Animal Hospital in Des Moines is offering a veterinary externship for 3rd and 4th year students to gain hands-on experience in diagnostics, treatment planning, and clinical skills practice.
Extensive opportunities include working closely with supervising veterinarians, conducting physical exams, and assisting in surgeries. A travel/living expense stipend is available to eligible students during the externship.
Ingersoll Animal Hospital is a full-service veterinary hospital. We have a rehab facility one block away, Pawsitive Strides. Together, we can offer a full range of services. Ingersoll is conveniently located in a district rich with character, small shops, public art, and a vibrant dining scene.
Students will work closely with the supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creation of treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. In addition to practicing their clinical skills, student externs will have the opportunity to practice their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Most externship experiences range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. Externships at Ingersoll Animal Hospital are designed for 3rd and 4th year veterinary students.
Veterinary students who are in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend.
