Job summary

A leading veterinary organization is offering externships for DVM students to gain hands-on experience in patient care, exams, and surgical procedures. Students will work closely with experienced veterinarians in a collaborative environment. The externship lasts between two to eight weeks, and participants may be eligible for a stipend to cover travel and living expenses.

Job description

Hillsboro Beach Animal Hospital is a team of passionate, hard-working health care professionals. As an extern, you'll learn, grow, and utilize your skills in the animal health care field. We are an AAHA-accredited hospital. We have three dedicated veterinarians, along with a strong support staff of skilled technicians, caring kennel workers, and courteous receptionists. Our doctors have over 45 years of combined experience and have the utmost regard for each pet as a special individual. We have a strong team spirit combined with a supportive environment.

Students will work closely with the supervising DVMs to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creation of treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. In addition to practicing their clinical skills, student externs will have the opportunity to practice their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.

Most externship experiences range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. All DVM students (regardless of class year) are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.
