Job description

Veterinary Extern - General Practice

An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give students the unique opportunity to understand the day-to-day operations of a veterinary practice, and to gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience. The practice is supportive, committed to excellent medicine, and provides exceptional service to animals and their owners.

Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in:

• Gathering patient histories
• Performing physical examinations
• Creating treatment plans and diagnostic procedures
• Diagnosing and providing dental services
• Observing, assisting, or performing surgical procedures
• Managing medical care of patients
• Practicing communication with the medical team, support staff, and clients

• Duration: 2–8 weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules
• Eligibility: Students in the clinical portion of their education
• Stipend: Travel/living expense stipend

All veterinary students are encouraged to participate.
