Black Dog Veterinary Services offers a veterinary externship for senior students to gain hands-on clinical experience in general practice, dentistry, surgeries, and emergency care. You will work closely with a supervising veterinarian to build assessment and treatment planning skills while communicating with clients and staff.
Externships range from two to eight weeks and are open to 3rd and 4th year veterinary students. A travel/living expense stipend may be available to eligible participants.

Black Dog Veterinary Services is an AAHA-accredited, Fear-Free Certified, Cat-Friendly Practice that offers a wide range of general practice services, including preventive care, soft tissue and orthopedic surgery, dentistry, and sick patient exams. We also offer same-day urgent care exams and complementary medicine options (acupuncture and chiropractic care).
Students will work closely with the supervising veterinarian to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creation of treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing/assisting or performing surgical procedures, and medical management of patients. In addition to practicing their clinical skills, student externs will have the opportunity to practice their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Most externship experiences range from two to eight weeks depending on student and hospital schedules. Externships at Black Dog Veterinary Services are offered to 3rd and 4th year veterinary students.
Veterinary students who are in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend.
