National Veterinary Associates is offering a hands-on externship for DVM students in a supportive veterinary environment. Participants will work with experienced DVMs to gain practical clinical experience, including diagnostics, treatment planning, and surgery assistance. This program aims to boost professional skills while providing the potential for financial support through stipends.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital provides students with the opportunity to understand the daily operations of the practice and gain valuable hands-on clinical experience. While each NVA hospital is unique, all share a supportive environment committed to excellent veterinary medicine and exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work closely with supervising DVMs to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, observing or assisting with surgical procedures, and managing medical cases. This externship also offers students the chance to enhance their communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
The externship duration typically ranges from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All DVM students, regardless of their class year, are encouraged to participate.
DVM students in the clinical phase of their education may be eligible for a travel and living expense stipend. Click here to view stipend amounts and details on the stipend program.
