National Veterinary Associates offers a rewarding externship for veterinary students to gain hands-on experience in a supportive environment. Students will work alongside seasoned veterinarians, learning crucial skills in patient care, diagnostics, and surgical assistance over flexible durations of two to eight weeks. This opportunity promotes professional development while providing potential stipends for living expenses.
An externship experience at an NVA hospital offers veterinary students a valuable opportunity to understand the daily operations of a veterinary practice and gain hands-on clinical experience. Each NVA hospital is unique, but all share a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and delivering exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Externs will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, observing or assisting with surgical procedures, and managing patient medical care. This experience also provides an opportunity to enhance communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Externship durations typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on the student and hospital schedules. These externships are available for veterinary students in their clinical year. Housing may be available in some cases.
Veterinary students in their clinical training may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. Click HERE to view the stipend amounts and HERE for more details on the stipend program.
