Job summary

North Fork Animal Hospital in New York offers veterinary externships for 3rd and 4th year students. Externs work closely with the supervising veterinarian to gain hands-on experience in history taking, physical exams, treatment planning, diagnostics, dentistry, surgical observation or participation, and medical management.

Externs will also develop communication skills with the medical team and clients. Travel/living stipends of $1,000 are provided to eligible students.

Qualifications

• Externship for veterinary students (3rd/4th year) in a small animal practice.
• Opportunities to develop client communication and clinical observation skills.
• Exposure to exotics and aquatic animal care through the hospital's cases.

Responsibilities

• Gather patient histories and perform physical exams under supervision.
• Assist or observe diagnostics, dentistry, and medical management.
• Create treatment plans in collaboration with the supervising veterinarian.
• Observe or participate in surgical procedures and post-operative care.
• Develop communication skills with the medical team and clients.
