Job description

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Cedar Rapids, IA is seeking a full-time ER Service Head who will work side by side with our ER clinicians, specialists, and leadership team.

The ideal candidate will have a DVM from an accredited university, successfully completed an internship, and possess at least three years of ER experience. Previous leadership experience is preferred.

Responsibilities include:

1. Managing the schedule for all ER Clinicians, including PTO requests.
2. Facilitating regular ER Clinician meetings and participating in hospital leadership meetings.
3. Mentoring ER Clinicians and new ER/ICU support staff. Overseeing ER Clinician case management and providing guidance on case decisions.
4. Integrating emergency and specialty services to manage all hospitalized cases effectively. Acting as a liaison between ER and Specialty Clinicians and discussing concerns with the Medical Director as needed.
5. Assisting in the implementation and monitoring of patient safety reporting related to the emergency department.
6. Contributing to the recruitment of new Emergency Clinicians. Ensuring new hires are assigned a mentor to support retention and engagement.
7. Handling customer service issues as needed and assisting management in follow-up to resolve concerns.
8. Partnering with hospital leadership to identify opportunities and implement initiatives for improving ER patient care, medical protocols, and client service levels.
9. Staying informed about hospital environment and issues, collaborating with the Medical Director, and addressing ER/ICU personnel issues, including performance reviews.
10. Supporting management with client and pDVM concerns when necessary.
11. Overseeing capital purchases for ICU/ER department alongside the management team.
