Job summary

Southern Oregon Veterinary Specialty Center in Central Point, Oregon, seeks a Veterinary Criticalist to join a premier 24/7 specialty and emergency hospital. You will manage high-acuity emergency and ICU cases, collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, and contribute to advanced critical care therapies and protocols.

Qualifications

• DVM or equivalent veterinary degree with eligibility for Oregon veterinary licensure.
• Board Certification in Emergency and Critical Care (DACVECC) or Residency Trained in Emergency and Critical Care and board eligible.
• Strong clinical judgment and the ability to manage complex, high-acuity patients.
• Strong communication skills with a compassionate, client-centered approach.

Responsibilities

• Manage high-acuity emergency and ICU patients with stabilization and ongoing critical care.
• Provide comprehensive care for complex unstable patients in a dedicated ICU setting.
• Lead or participate in interdisciplinary rounds with Emergency, Internal Medicine, Surgery, and Urgent Care teams.
• Utilize advanced critical care therapies and monitoring as clinically indicated.
• Oversee Level 3–4 ICU patients and life-support interventions.
• Collaborate with ICU nurses to tailor treatment plans using real-time data.
• Utilize CT, ultrasound, radiography, in-house labs, and point-of-care testing.
• Contribute to transfusion medicine and blood bank activities.
• Work with surgical teams on critically ill patients requiring intervention.
• Support development of critical care protocols and hospital programs.
• Communicate clearly with clients and referring veterinarians about diagnoses and prognosis.
• Foster mentorship and knowledge-sharing across the hospital and Ethos network.
• Advance the hospital's regional referral center role close to home for Southern Oregon and Northern California.
