Job summary

Boston West Veterinary Emergency & Specialty in Natick, MA is seeking a Veterinary Criticalist for a full-time role. You will manage high-acuity emergency and ICU patients, lead interdisciplinary rounds, and help shape the future of our critical care service, including teaching and mentoring colleagues.

The position offers a $210,000–$250,000 base salary with three 12-hour shifts per week, no weekends, and dedicated teaching time.

Qualifications

• DVM or equivalent veterinary degree or international equivalent.
• Eligible for Massachusetts state veterinary licensure.
• Board Certification in Emergency and Critical Care or residency-trained welcome.
• Strong teaching, mentoring, and teamwork abilities.

Responsibilities

• Manage high-acuity emergency and critical care patients.
• Lead or participate in interdisciplinary rounds and protocol development.
• Perform advanced therapies (e.g., mechanical ventilation, high-flow oxygen).
• Support hospital-wide critical care standards and program growth.
• Mentor ER clinicians and technicians and contribute to teaching opportunities.

In your day-to-day, you will:

• Manage high-acuity emergency and ICU patients, including triage and stabilization

• Lead or participate in interdisciplinary rounds and contribute to protocol development

• Perform advanced therapies (e.g., mechanical ventilation, high-flow oxygen) based on available equipment

• Support program growth initiatives such as blood bank services or residency development

• Engage in ongoing CE and mentorship opportunities, including POCUS and echocardiography training

What You Bring

• DVM or equivalent veterinary degree with eligibility for Massachusetts state veterinary licensure.
• Board Certification in Emergency and Critical Care or Residency Trained in Emergency and Critical Care; newly boarded candidates are welcome.
