Job summary

Florida Veterinary Referral Center in Estero, Florida is seeking an Emergency & Critical Care Specialist to join our 24/7 referral hospital. You will manage high-acuity emergencies, collaborate with ICU and specialty teams, and provide advanced therapies and compassionate client communication.

Qualifications

  • DVM or equivalent veterinary degree with eligibility for state veterinary licensure.
  • Board Certification in Emergency and Critical Care (DACVECC).
  • Strong communication skills with a compassionate, client centered approach.
  • A collaborative mindset and commitment to exceptional patient care.
  • A passion for continuous learning, teamwork, mentorship, and advancing specialty medicine.
  • Interest in contributing to program development and advancing critical care services.

Responsibilities

  • Manage high acuity emergency and ICU patients, including triage and stabilization.
  • Lead or participate in interdisciplinary rounds and contribute to protocol development.
  • Perform advanced therapies such as mechanical ventilation and high flow oxygen based on available equipment.
  • Support program growth initiatives such as blood bank services or residency development.
  • Engage in ongoing CE and mentorship opportunities, including POCUS and echocardiography training.
  • Work closely with veterinarians, technicians, and support teams to provide seamless, compassionate patient care.
  • Communicate clearly and empathetically with pet owners during stressful and emotional situations.
  • Contribute to a positive, team focused hospital culture built on collaboration, mentorship, and continuous learning.

As a Critical Care Specialist, you’ll have the opportunity to manage complex, high acuity cases while working closely with emergency, specialty, and ICU teams.
