Job summary

Arizona Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Center in Buckeye, Arizona is seeking a board-certified or residency-trained Veterinary Criticalist to join our Emergency and Specialty hospital and help expand Critical Care services.

You will work with a dedicated team to deliver advanced medicine, lead interdisciplinary rounds, perform therapies such as ventilation and high-flow oxygen, and mentor clinicians while contributing to a positive, team‑centered culture within Ethos Veterinary Health.

Qualifications

  • DVM or equivalent veterinary degree with eligibility for state veterinary licensure.
  • Board Certification by the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care or residency training in Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care.
  • Strong clinical skills and an interest in managing complex, critically ill patients.
  • Strong communication skills with a compassionate, client centered approach.
  • A collaborative mindset and commitment to exceptional patient care.
  • A passion for continuous learning, teamwork, mentorship, and advancing specialty medicine.

Responsibilities

  • Manage high acuity emergency and ICU patients, including triage, stabilization, and ongoing critical care management.
  • Lead or participate in interdisciplinary rounds and contribute to the development of clinical protocols.
  • Perform advanced therapies (e.g., mechanical ventilation, high-flow oxygen) based on available equipment.
  • Utilize advanced diagnostic and treatment capabilities to manage complex critical care cases.
  • Collaborate closely with the Emergency team to ensure seamless transitions between emergency stabilization and ongoing ICU care.
  • Support Critical Care program growth such as blood bank services.
  • Participate in continuing education and mentorship opportunities, including POCUS and echocardiography training.
  • Help foster strong relationships between Critical Care, Emergency, and specialty services.
  • Work closely with veterinarians, technicians, and support teams to provide seamless, compassionate patient care.
  • Communicate clear and empathetically with pet owners during stressful and emotional situations.
  • Contribute to a positive, team focused hospital culture built on collaboration, mentorship, and continuous learning.
