This is an exciting time to join CCVS. We are expanding our hospital, increasing the capacity of our Emergency and Critical Care department, adding advanced imaging including MRI and fluoroscopy, and preparing to launch Neurology, Ophthalmology, and Dentistry. For a criticalist who enjoys complex medicine, teaching, collaboration, and helping shape a growing ECC service, this role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact.

What You’ll Do:

Our criticalists provide advanced care for hospitalized, emergent, and critically ill patients while working closely with emergency veterinarians, specialists, interns, residents, and an experienced nursing team.

Responsibilities include:
  • ICU and ER management, emergency receiving
  • Management of complex and critically ill patients
  • Collaboration across specialty services
  • Teaching and mentorship of interns, residents, and veterinary nursing staff
  • Participation in the continued growth and development of the ECC service

We value criticalists who bring strong clinical judgment, thoughtful communication, a collaborative approach to patient care, and an interest in teaching and team development.

Why CCVS?

CCVS is entering a major phase of growth designed to expand access to advanced emergency and specialty care for Cape Cod, southeastern Massachusetts, and the Islands.

  • Fluoroscopy
  • Additional clinical and procedural space
  • New specialty services in Neurology, Ophthalmology, and Dentistry
  • Continued growth across our existing emergency and specialty departments

For our ECC team, this means greater capacity for critically ill patients, broader specialty collaboration, and increased access to advanced diagnostics.

CCVS is home to more than 20 specialists across multiple disciplines, including Surgery, Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Dermatology, Anesthesiology, Exotics, and Diagnostic Imaging. Our criticalists work closely with these services to provide coordinated care for complex patients.

Education is also an important part of our culture. CCVS supports ECC and rotating internships, residency training, structured veterinary technician education, and continuing education programs. Criticalists have the opportunity to participate in rounds, mentorship, case discussion, and the clinical development of the teams around them.

Compensation & Schedule
We offer:
  • Base salary of $200,000–$250,000, based on experience and schedule
  • Participation in a pooled production bonus designed to support team-based medicine and hospital performance
  • The schedule may include day and swing shifts, ICU and ER receiving responsibilities, weekends, holidays, and on-call coverage based on department needs.
