Job summary

Virginia Tech seeks a Certified Central Sterile Technician to support the Central Sterile Supply team for veterinary surgical care. You will sterilize, assemble, and maintain instruments, prepare operating rooms, and assist during procedures to ensure patient safety.

Responsibilities include patient prep, aseptic technique, collaboration with surgical colleagues, and daily instrument tracking. On-call availability and 30-minute report time required; CRCST must be obtained within one year of hire.

Qualifications

• CRCST certification required within 1 year of hire.
• Experience in veterinary care of large and small animals.
• Knowledge of basic companion and large animal anatomy and physiology.
• Strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Support surgical services across operating room assistance, patient preparation, and instrumentation management.
• Clean, sterilize, assemble, and maintain surgical instruments to be procedure-ready at all times.
• Prepare surgical suites and provide intraoperative support to veterinary surgeons and clinical teams.
• Perform patient preparation, including clipping and aseptic site prep, while maintaining sterile protocols.
• Collaborate with specialists to ensure seamless surgical workflow.
• Coordinate daily surgical operations, ensuring OR readiness and proper case flow for scheduled and emergency procedures.
• Maintain accurate tracking and organization of instruments and supplies.
