Job summary

VCU’s Animal Care Facility is seeking a Labs/Research Assistant 1 to support the veterinary care program. You will work with veterinarians and staff to restrain animals, assist with diagnostics, provide training support, and help manage medications and equipment.

Applicants should have experience with laboratory animals, strong organization, and effective communication. The role is fully onsite with Monday–Friday hours and university holiday rotations.

Qualifications

• Experience with laboratory animals in a research environment.
• Humane handling and restraint of rodents and large animals.
• Ability to administer medications to animals.
• Experience with autoclaves and surgical kits.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Basic computer skills and accurate record keeping.

Responsibilities

• Provide clinical, technical, and administrative support to the veterinary care program.
• Restrain laboratory animals for physical examinations.
• Assist with radiology and diagnostic specimen collection.
• Support hands-on training classes; administer medications.
• Maintain veterinary services calendar and records; data entry for researchers.
