Job summary

Oklahoma State University in Stillwater seeks a Veterinary Technician to support the Large Animal CCU and assist year-four veterinary students. You will maintain equipment and supplies inventory across clinical areas and provide high-quality technical assistance in multiple clinics including small animal medicine and surgery, ICU, and equine services.

This role requires RVT licensure or eligibility within 120 days of hire.

Qualifications

• Must have High School/GED or equivalent by start date.
• Two years' experience as Veterinary Assistant or Technician is required for Technician I/II/III levels.
• Licensed RVT or be eligible to sit for licensure within 120 days of hire.
• Three to six years' experience as Veterinary Assistant/Technician is preferred for higher levels.
• NAVTA credentials or recognized specialty are considered for senior levels.

About This Position

This position is for Large Animal CCU: Instruct and assist year-four professional veterinary students. Maintain equipment and supplies inventory in clinical areas. Provide high quality veterinary technical assistance in several clinics/departments of the VTH including small animal medicine and surgery, small animal ICU, equine medicine and surgery, food animal medicine and surgery etc. Complete other tasks that are assigned or become necessary.

Required Qualifications

• High School/GED (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)

• Veterinary Assistant - High school/GED with two years' experience.

Veterinary Technician I

Registered Veterinary Technician or completed associate degree in veterinary technology and will sit for the Oklahoma State Board of Examiner's technician certifying exam and obtain licensure within 120 days of hire.

Veterinary Technician II

Three years' experience as a Veterinary Assistant/Technician or equivalent at an AVMA accredited teaching hospital, or large, multi-clinician private veterinary practice.

Veterinary Technician III

Six years' experience as a Veterinary Assistant/Technician or equivalent at an AVMA accredited teaching hospital, or large, multi-clinician private veterinary practice.

Senior Veterinary Technician

Eight years' experience as a Veterinary Assistant/Technician or equivalent at an AVMA accredited teaching hospital, or large, multi-clinician private veterinary practice with greater than one year experience within a specific specialty.

Veterinary Technician Specialist I

Registered Veterinary Technician. Veterinary Technician Specialist recognized by NAVTA; or have credentials in specialty that VTH defines as meriting recognition.

Veterinary Technician Specialist II

Must meet all requirements of Veterinary Technician Specialist I. Five years of experience as Veterinary Technician Specialist recognized by NAVTA; or have credentials in specialty that VTH defines as meriting recognition.

Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:

Experience in restraint of small and large animals, administering injections, and placement of IV (peripheral, central, and urinary) catheters is essential. Must have knowledge of equipment used within VTH including, but not limited to: personal computer, telephone, copy machine, laser, video endoscope, diagnostic lab equipment, camera/video camera, electrodiagnostic equipment, etc. Must be physically capable of lifting animals weighing 50 pounds or greater onto exam tables and into elevated cages.

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate's Veterinary Technology

• Five years experience as a Veterinary Technician Specialist recognized by NAVTA or credentials in a specialty that VTH defines as meriting recognition. Ability to perform assigned tasks independently with minimal supervision.
