Job summary

Oklahoma State University (OSU) in Stillwater, OK, seeks enthusiastic registered veterinary technicians or veterinary assistants for the Veterinary Teaching Hospital's emergency and critical care service. You will provide clinical assistance, participate in training veterinary students, and work with veterinary specialists to deliver the highest standard of care.

This is a full-time position with varying shifts, shift differential pay, and a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

  • High School/GED (degree must be conferred on or before start date).
  • Two years related experience; or AS in Veterinary Technology from AVMA program with two years related experience; or BS in Biological Sciences; or DVM degree or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical assistance to professional staff at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital.
  • Participate in one-on-one training of veterinary students and work with specialists.
  • Assist with a variety of treatments and ensure high standard of patient care.

About This Position

This position is for enthusiastic registered veterinary technicians or veterinary assistants with a passion for emergency and critical care. Successful candidates will provide clinical assistance to professional staff and a variety of treatments to patients admitted to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH). Candidates will have the opportunity to actively participate in one‑on‑one training of veterinary students, as well as work alongside veterinary specialists to provide clients and patients with the highest standard of care.

Job Type

This is a full-time position with varying shifts and hours. Shift differentials are available for non-traditional shifts. Required Qualifications
  • High School/GED (degree must be conferred on or before agreed upon start date)
  • Two years related experience; or Associate of Science degree in Veterinary Technology from an AVMA accredited veterinary technology program with two years related experience; or Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences or related area; or DVM degree or equivalent.
Skills, Proficiencies, And/or Knowledge

Experience in restraint of small animals, administering injections, and placement of IV (peripheral, central, and urinary) catheters is essential. Must have knowledge of equipment used within VTH including, but not limited to: personal computer, telephone, copy machine, diagnostic lab equipment, electrodiagnostic equipment, and ECG, etc. Must be physically capable of lifting animals weighing 50 pounds or greater onto exam tables and into elevated cages.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's Veterinary Technology
  • Five years experience as a Veterinary Technician Specialist recognized by NAVTA or credentials in a specialty that VTH defines as meriting recognition.

Ability to perform assigned tasks independently with minimal supervision.

Certifications, Registrations, And/or Licenses

Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT).

Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS).
