Job summary

Thrive Pet Healthcare is seeking a Veterinary Assistant at Animal General on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. This full-time role supports veterinarians and licensed technicians, assisting during procedures and maintaining patient records.

Ideal candidates have at least 1 year of animal care experience, strong attention to detail, and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds. We offer competitive pay and benefits.

Compensation starts at $18–$22 per hour, with rate based on credentials and experience.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year of animal husbandry/animal care experience.
• Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
• High school diploma or equivalent, AAS or higher preferred.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks.
• Inventory/purchasing experience preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Communicate and educate clients on medical procedures and next steps.
• Assist DVMs and LVTs with patients during pre-op, surgery, and post-op.
• Stock exam and treatment rooms; maintain a sterile environment for treatment, x-ray, surgery, labs and isolation wards.
• Record patient history and update medical records in the system.
• Dispense pharmaceuticals as required; manage inventory and deliveries.
