Job summary

Brown Animal Hospital in Peoria, IL, is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our clinical team. You will support surgical and dental procedures, monitor anesthesia, perform prophylaxis and radiography, and prepare patients and equipment for procedures.

The role offers a full-time schedule with a 4/10 workweek and Tue-Sat availability. Compensation ranges from $16–$18 per hour, with a comprehensive benefits package and a customer-focused patient experience.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in a veterinary assistant or related role.
• Proficiency in safe animal handling and restraint for dogs and cats.
• Ability to assist with exams, treatments, and outpatient procedures.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established protocols.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and multitask in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team.
• Dependable attendance and strong work ethic.
• Physical ability to stand, bend, lift and restrain patients safely.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians with surgical and dental procedures.
• Monitor patients during anesthesia and recovery.
• Perform dental prophylaxis and dental radiography.
• Prepare patients, equipment, and treatment areas for procedures.
• Maintain surgical and treatment records.
• Guide clients through admission and discharge with compassion.
• Support exams and outpatient procedures outside surgical schedules.
• Support workflow by anticipating team needs.
