Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Virginia Beach is hiring an exceptional Veterinary Assistant to join our Surgery Department. Pay ranges from $17.50 to $25.00 per hour and depends on experience and competency leveling.

The role requires the ability to work independently within a team, with a minimum of two years in a veterinary hospital, and rotating on-call after training. You will assist with nursing care, monitor vitals, set up IV fluids, and support postoperative client communication.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to stable patients according to hospital standards and core values.
• Performs physical exams and monitors vital signs including heart rate, respiration, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature.
• Set up intravenous fluids and administer subcutaneous fluids.
• Operate intravenous fluid pumps and troubleshoot errors; disconnect/connect patients aseptically.
• Monitor patient response to fluid therapy and alert doctors as needed.

B luePearl Pet Hospital is hiring an exceptional Veterinary Assistant to join our Surgery Department.

Pay: $17.50 - 25.00 / hour

This pay band is a starting point and is dependent on experience and advancement through our competency leveling system.

A BluePearl Surgery Assistant will be responsible for some post-operative client communication and must be able to work independently while contributing to a larger team goal. Prefer to have a minimum of two or more years of experience in a veterinary hospital. A rotating on call schedule is required once training has been completed.

As a Surgery Veterinary Assistant, you will:

• Provide nursing care to stable patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
• Performs physical exam; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
• Understands normal vital parameters and alerts doctor when abnormal.
• Able to set up intravenous fluids.

• Administers subcutaneous fluids.
• Can operate all brands of intravenous fluid pumps and can troubleshoot errors.
• Able to disconnect and connect patients from intravenous fluids aseptically.
• Ability to monitor patient response to fluid therapy including signs of overload.
