Job summary

Animal Emergency of Gainesville is seeking a veterinary assistant to join our emergency team in Gainesville, GA. You will assist veterinarians and licensed technicians with examinations, treatments, and surgeries, while learning in a fast-paced emergency setting.

The position requires strong animal handling, communication, and teamwork skills, with a commitment to maintaining a clean, well-organized hospital environment. Flexibility for overnights, weekends, and holidays is essential.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a veterinary assistant required.
  • Small animal emergency and critical care experience (3+ years) preferred.
  • Strong animal handling and restraint skills with knowledge of veterinary procedures.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
  • Proficiency with veterinary equipment, instruments, and industry-standard tools.

Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians and licensed veterinary technicians with examinations, treatments, and surgical procedures as per Georgia State Board of Veterinary Medicine Scope of Practice.
  • Safely handle and restrain patients; administer medications and vaccines as directed.
  • Collect laboratory samples, perform basic diagnostics, and maintain medical records.
  • Educate clients on pet care, treatment plans, and discharge instructions.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked work environment.
  • Work a flexible schedule, including overnights, weekends, and holidays.
