Job summary

Animal Emergency of Gainesville offers emergency veterinary care and critical services in Gainesville, GA. We seek a dedicated veterinary assistant to support veterinarians and licensed technicians in examinations, treatments, and surgical procedures.

You will safely handle patients, administer medications, collect samples, educate clients, and help maintain a clean, well‑stocked facility. Flexible shifts including overnights and weekends are required.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of experience as a veterinary assistant.
• 3+ years of small animal emergency and critical care experience preferred.
• Strong animal handling and restraint skills, with knowledge of veterinary clinical procedures.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
• Proficiency with veterinary equipment, instruments, and industry‑standard tools.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians and licensed veterinary technicians with examinations, treatments, and surgical procedures in accordance with the Scope of Practice established by the Georgia State Board of Veterinary Medicine.
• Safely handle and restrain patients; administer medications and vaccines as directed and permitted by the Scope of Practice.
• Collect laboratory samples, perform basic diagnostics as assigned, and maintain accurate medical records.
• Educate clients on pet care, treatment plans, and discharge instructions as appropriate.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and well‑stocked work environment.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including overnights, weekends, and holidays.
