Summary

Perform triage for patients presenting on emergency and provide nursing care to critically ill patients. Assist clinicians with performing advanced technical skills and utilize critical thinking to deliver the highest level of care for critically ill patients.

Examples of Work

  • Assist in providing clinical support in ECC care services for companion animals.
  • Proficient in IV catheter placement and fluid sample collection.
  • Assist in CPR and provide critical nursing care to post-arrest patients.
  • Restrain patients safely without risk to self, patient, or others.
  • Observe patients and recognize subtle changes in their condition.
  • Perform physical exams on veterinary patients.
  • Use monitoring equipment and recognize trends in EKG, BP, CO2, SpO2.
  • Administer medical treatments including PO, IM, Sub Q, and IV medications.
  • Assist with advanced procedures such as pericardiocentesis, thoracocentesis, and blood product administration.
  • Strong skills in medical terminology, math, and CRI administration.
  • Perform triage efficiently by gathering necessary information from clients and assessing patient status.
  • Take diagnostic-quality radiographs of the abdomen and chest.
  • Conduct in-house diagnostics like microscopy, chemistry, and urinalysis at an advanced level.
  • Manage client check-ins after hours, process charges and payments, and retrieve medical history.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
  • Participate in continuing education to develop a critical care mindset.
Education and Experience

Credentialed veterinary technician or equivalent experience. Equivalent experience is defined as 3 years in general practice or 2 years in specialty/emergency practice.
