Job summary

Chewy Vet Care in Colorado Springs is seeking a full‑time Veterinary Assistant to join our Healthcare Practice Team. You will support veterinarians, operate equipment, and help maintain inventory while delivering a high level of care to pets and their families.

The role requires 0–2 years experience in veterinary medicine, completion of an accredited assistant program (preferred), and a strong Customer Service focus.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of an accredited veterinary assistant program (preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to complete the veterinary assistant skills checklist.
  • 0–2 years of experience as a Veterinary Assistant in practice.
  • Experience in veterinary medicine.
  • Passionate about helping people and pets with empathy and excellent customer service focus.
  • Strong ability to connect with clients and demonstrate empathy and compassion.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, observational, and analytical skills.
  • Strong ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support the practice team, setting the bar for high‑level veterinary support care and embodying the Chewy Vet Care culture to deliver the pet parent WOW experience.
  • Implement policies and procedures, use integrated technology, and deliver consistent and appropriate medical care within given abilities.
  • Perform veterinary assistant duties to support practice veterinarians, including operating medical equipment (lab, radiology, anesthesia, dental) and handling animal bodily fluids and tissues.
  • Demonstrate team support and care for others’ work experiences.
  • Follow the practice’s SOPs and SOC.
  • Review invoices with clients and handle client payments.
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with other team members, keeping veterinarians informed of patient updates in real time.
  • Be proficient using the PIMS and assist others with technology.
  • Act responsibly regarding pharmacy holdings and keep controlled substance logs.
  • Assist the practice manager with inventory needs.
  • Clean workspaces after each patient or lab sample interaction.
  • Participate in self‑development courses and required compliance training.
  • Perform related duties as directed by management.
  • May be required to work weekends and occasional travel.

Physical Job Requirements
  • Standing or walking up to 80% of shift.
  • Frequently lift 50–70 pounds using a team lift.
  • Occasionally lift greater than 70 pounds using a team lift.
  • Stand, push, pull, carry, squat, and kneel.
Compensation and Benefits

The hourly range for this role is $16.10 – $24.27, depending on experience, education, and location. The position is eligible for 401(k). Benefits include medical/Rx, vision, dental, life, disability, hospital indemnity, critical illness, and accident insurance.

Non‑exempt hourly team members accrue paid time off (PTO) and have additional unplanned unpaid time off (UTO). Six paid holidays per year. Eligible for paid sick and family leave in compliance with state and local regulations.
