San Francisco SPCA is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to provide hands-on patient care within the Community Medicine team. The role supports surgical check-in, preparation, anesthesia support, and recovery, while maintaining medical records and client communication in a fast-paced shelter setting.

Responsibilities include assisting with treatments, safely handling animals, preparing kennels, and promoting humane animal care.

Qualifikationen

• Experience working as a veterinary assistant is required.
• Knowledge of animal handling and restraint techniques is beneficial.
• Experience using veterinary software or clinic computers is helpful.

Aufgaben

• Assist with treatments and procedures as directed by the veterinarian.
• Support anesthesia and recovery based on experience.
• Prepare and maintain surgical instruments and sterile supplies.
• Safely transport patients between the operating room, recovery area, and kennels.
• Restock supplies and prepare kennels and treatment areas for the next day.
• Document treatments, exams, and test results on medical records.
• Communicate with clients about their pets' care and release instructions.
• Admit and release animals in a courteous and efficient manner.
• Promote humane animal handling and welfare.
• Participate in regular staff meetings.
