Job summary

Glenwood Pet Hospital in Erie, PA, part of the Suveto network, seeks a full-time Veterinary Assistant to join our team. You will support veterinarians and technicians, assist during exams, and help educate clients on preventive care.

The ideal candidate loves animals, communicates clearly, and thrives in a fast-paced clinic. A high school diploma and basic animal-care knowledge are preferred; willingness to learn from veterinarians and senior staff is essential.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a veterinary hospital or similar setting preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Knowledge of basic animal care and medical terminology.
• Ability to handle and restrain animals safely.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
• Willingness to learn and take direction from veterinarians and senior staff.

Responsibilities

• Prepare exam rooms and assist in appointments with doctors.
• Take history from client and record observations in medical records.
• Educate clients on preventative healthcare and provide follow-up.
• Communicate concerns to the veterinarian or staff.
• Assist with venipuncture, in-house lab tests, and sample handling.
• Provide nursing care and monitor patients as directed by veterinarian.
• Assist with admission and discharge following protocols and educate clients.
• Maintain cleanliness and restock exam rooms, treatment areas, and wards.
• Operate practice software for dispensing medications and printing records.
• Understand and enforce OSHA regulations and hospital safety standards.
• Perform client callbacks and updates as requested.
• Contribute to other duties as assigned.
