Job description

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Raleigh, NC is seeking a knowledgeable and skilled Veterinary Assistant to join their fast-paced emergency department.

Pay: $17.00 - $25.50 / hour

This pay band is a starting point and is dependent on experience, licensure, and advancement through our leveling system.

Our Veterinary Assistants triage emergency cases as they come in and assist DVMs with crafting and reviewing estimates as needed. They perform diagnostics (radiographs, lab work, etc.), set patients up in ICU or inpatient wards, discharge patients, and handle client communication.

As an Emergency Veterinary Assistant, you will:

  • Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
  • Report patient signalment, problem list, and plan during nursing rounds.
  • Understand classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects, and appropriately monitor therapeutic responses.
  • Administer medications via appropriate routes and durations.
  • Perform phlebotomy.
  • Perform physical exams; accurately assess heart rate, pulse, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate, and effort.
  • Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia and monitoring equipment and assist with patients.
  • Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrate proficiency in designated roles as assigned by attending clinicians and/or supervisors.
