Job summary

Ethos Veterinary Health’s Pet+ER in Hunt Valley, MD is seeking a Veterinary Assistant for our 24/7 emergency team. You’ll support veterinarians and technicians, apply low-stress handling, collect histories, and help with triage and routine care in a fast-paced teaching hospital.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of one year veterinary experience.
  • Strong patient handling and animal restraint skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support veterinarians and veterinary technicians in delivering exceptional patient care.
  • Safely restrain and handle patients using low-stress handling techniques.
  • Obtain patient histories from pet owners and communicate relevant information to the medical team.
  • Accurately obtain and record patient weights and vital signs.
  • Assist with triage by recognizing urgent patient needs and following hospital protocols for critical patients.
  • Prepare injections using aseptic technique for administration by veterinarians or veterinary technicians.
  • Collect, package, label, and properly store laboratory samples.
  • Assist with routine examinations, treatments, and hospitalized patient care.
  • Monitor patient comfort and behavior, communicating changes to the clinical team.
  • Maintain treatment areas, exam rooms, and hospital cleanliness.
  • Assist with inventory management and communicate supply needs.
  • Cross-train to provide support for the Client Care team as needed.
  • Maintain effective communication across departments to support outstanding patient and client care.
  • Work closely with veterinarians, technicians, and support teams.
  • Contribute to a positive, team-focused hospital culture.
