The Veterinary Assistant supports veterinarians and veterinary technicians in providing high-quality care to animals and outstanding service to clients. This role is essential in maintaining a smooth, safe, and efficient clinic environment.

The Veterinary Assistant supports veterinarians and veterinary technicians in providing high-quality care to animals and outstanding service to clients. This role is essential in maintaining a smooth, safe, and efficient clinic environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians and technicians during examinations, treatments, and surgical procedures
• Safely restrain and handle animals for exams, blood draws, x-rays, and procedures
• Prepare exam rooms and surgical areas (cleaning, disinfecting, and setting up supplies)
• Perform basic laboratory tests (fecal analysis, blood smears, urinalysis) and collect samples
• Administer prescribed medications, vaccines, and treatments under supervision
• Monitor patient recovery and report changes in condition to medical staff
• Educate pet owners on basic care, nutrition, medications, and postoperative instructions
• Maintain accurate patient records, including weight, vital signs, and services rendered
• Stock and organize supplies, medications, and hospital equipment
• Ensure clinic cleanliness and biosecurity standards are maintained
• Assist with client check-in/check-out and scheduling as needed
  
  

Requirements

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required
• Completion of a Veterinary Assistant program preferred but not required
• Prior experience in a veterinary clinic or animal care setting preferred
• Comfort handling animals of various sizes and temperaments
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions
• Excellent communication and client service skills
• Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work well in a fast-paced environment
• Compassion, patience, and commitment to animal welfare
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods
  
  

Work Environment

• Veterinary clinic, animal hospital, or similar setting
• Potential exposure to animal bites, scratches, and zoonotic diseases
• Work may require evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays based on clinic hours
