Overview

Veterinary Assistant – Full-Time
Westland Veterinary Hospital – Westland, MI
$16–$19/hour (based on experience)
4-day work week with rotating Saturdays

Westland Veterinary Hospital is seeking a compassionate and skilled Veterinary Assistant to join our dynamic and dedicated team!

We’re a full-service, AAHA-accredited veterinary hospital located in Westland, MI, providing expert care to dogs, cats, and exotic pets (including birds, rabbits, ferrets, and other pocket pets). Our clinic is equipped with modern diagnostic and surgical technology, and we take pride in delivering personalized, high-quality veterinary care.

What You'll Do:

• Assist with triage and animal restraint
• Administer subcutaneous injections and understand vaccine protocols
• Support surgical prep and patient recovery
• Communicate effectively with pet owners and team members
• Maintain cleanliness and safety in all clinic areas

Venipuncture skills are preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

How you'll make an impact:

• Assist Veterinarians and Technicians in all duties
• Prepare animals for exams and surgery
• Support medical treatments and perform laboratory tests
• Administer medications under supervision
• Handle and prepare specimens
• Attend to immediate needs in cooperation with staff
• Communicate effectively with animals and owners, maintaining a courteous and informative manner
• Maintain a clean and safe facility

Qualifications

Physical demands and work environment:

• Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, and manipulate objects up to 50 pounds, with assistance for heavier lifts
• Work in noisy conditions with animal sounds and equipment
• Exposure to pets that may bite or scratch, anesthesia, radiation, biological hazards, and medications
• Effective communication skills in written and verbal English
