Job summary

Animal Dermatology Group in Rocklin, CA is seeking a Veterinary Assistant with experience in veterinary settings to support our dermatology team. You will assist with procedures, manage patient flow, and communicate clearly with pet owners.

Responsibilities

The Role: In this position, you aren’t just “helping out” - you are a vital part of the medical process. You will work closely with our Board-Certified Dermatologists and technical team to manage complex cases, provide enhanced quality of life via treatments, and provide a bridge of communication between the doctor and client. You are an energetic individual with a positive demeanor that takes initiative and is committed to the needs of the clinic. You are punctual, willing to teach others and share ideas, adaptable to change, able to see the big picture, and professional and caring when dealing with patients/clients.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (including but not limited to):

• Previous experience or training/education in a veterinary facility
• Friendly, outgoing, “people oriented”
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to be cross-trained for front office receptionist duties; telephone and computer skills are necessary
• Team player willing to learn new techniques and treatments and adapt to change

Medical Related Skills:

• Preparing and restraining animals during procedures
• Assisting with procedures
• Apply bandages and/or splints
• Wound care
• Ability to use a stethoscope and otoscope
• Advising pet owners on proper care

Duties (including but not limited to):

• Demonstrate excellent relations with client/pets in waiting area and exam rooms
• Exceed the client’s expectations of service
• Compassionate nursing care as a top priority for all patients
• Housekeeping/maintenance
• Perform cursory examination of an animal
• Recognize potential patient issues
• Clearly communicate findings to a doctor
• Record keeping
• Fill prescriptions and dispense medications as prescribed by the doctor

Education and Physical Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Dependable attendance
• Must be able to lift 40 pounds
• Willing to work long or irregular hours under pressure
• Ability to walk, bend, stand, squat, or reach constantly during an 8-hour day
