Job summary

Richmond Animal Hospital in Richmond, VT is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to join our locally owned practice. You’ll support veterinarians, technicians, clients, and patients, learn hands-on care, and grow with a team that values teaching, collaboration, and mutual success.

We offer a four-day work week with no nights, weekends, or holidays, competitive pay $18–$25/hour plus a $1,000 sign-on bonus, and benefits like health insurance, PTO, and professional development opportunities.

Qualifications

  • At least 1 year of experience in a clinical, medical, animal care or customer service setting preferred.
  • Interest in learning animal behavior and veterinary terminology.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

  • Learn and utilize safe, low-stress techniques to restrain pets during exams, blood draws, and procedures.
  • Gather basic patient vitals and prepare lab specimens.
  • Fill medication and help sterilize instruments.
  • Maintain a clean, organized hospital environment.
  • Assist with front-end tasks and provide friendly updates to pet owners.

Veterinary Assistant - Richmond Animal Hospital
Pay: $18.00 - $25.00 per hour, depending on experience and skills

Veterinary Assistants are an important part of our hospital team. They help keep the day running smoothly by supporting our veterinarians, technicians, clients, and patients wherever needed.

Your Day-to-Day
Patient Handling
  • Learn and utilize safe, low-stress techniques to restrain pets during exams, blood draws, and clinical procedures.
Medical & Lab Support
  • Gather basic patient vitals.
  • Label and prepare lab specimens.
  • Fill medication.
  • Safely clean and sterilize surgical instruments.
Hospital Pride
  • Maintain a fresh, clean, and organized environment throughout the hospital.
  • Keep exam rooms, treatment areas, and surgery area, clean, stocked, and ready for patient care.
  • Take ownership of hospital laundry and support strict safety and cleanliness protocols.
Client & Front-End Support
  • Answer phones during busy periods.
  • Check patients in and out of the hospital.
  • Provide warm, empathetic updates to pet owners.
  • Support both the clients and medical teams to help maintain a smooth workflow throughout the day.
Physical & Safety Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and remain active throughout 10-hour shifts.
  • Ability to safely handle animals of varying sizes and temperaments.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and move throughout the hospital for extended periods.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced medical environment.
  • Strict adherence to all safety protocols.
