Job summary

Maplewood Veterinary Center is seeking a dedicated veterinary assistant to support veterinarians and staff during exams, treatments, and surgeries. You will help restrain and care for animals, prepare rooms, and maintain a clean, safe clinic.

The role involves basic lab work, medication administration under supervision, and close communication with pet owners to outline care plans and follow-up visits. A strong focus on safety and animal welfare is essential.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year of veterinary experience is required.
• Surgical experience is required.
• Ability to handle animals safely and with compassion.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians and vet techs during examinations, treatments, and surgeries.
• Handle and restrain animals safely and compassionately.
• Prepare examination rooms and surgical areas by cleaning and sterilizing equipment and surfaces.
• Perform basic laboratory tests, such as collecting blood, urine, and stool samples.
• Administer medications and vaccinations under the supervision of a veterinarian.
• Feed, bathe, and exercise animals as needed.
• Maintain accurate medical records.
• Communicate with pet owners about their pets' care, treatment plans, and follow-up visits.
• Clean and maintain the clinic, including stocking supplies and ensuring a safe and sanitary environment.

Salary: $17-$20 per hour, based on the candidate's skills, experience, and qualifications.

Schedule: Full-time, 4 days per week, Monday-Friday, 7:15 AM-5:00 PM, with a 1-hour lunch break. No weekend hours!
