Summary of Job Purpose and Function

The Veterinary Assistant supports veterinarians and veterinary technicians in providing quality veterinary care for pets, advocates for pets, educates clients on pet health, and maintains a safe hospital environment.

Key Responsibilities

2. Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians to ensure high-quality pet care and maximize productivity.
3. Communicate effectively with all team members to maintain patient flow.
4. Provide professional service, perform procedures, prepare for others, and monitor hospitalized or surgical pets as permitted by law.
5. Educate clients about wellness plans, preventive care, and hospital services.
6. Obtain and document relevant client information and medical history.
7. Ensure safety and cleanliness in the hospital environment.
8. Assist with surgeries as applicable.
9. Utilize technical skills within legal and professional guidelines.
10. Mentor other paraprofessionals.
11. Perform other duties as assigned.

• Completion of NAVTA-approved Veterinary Assistant program or equivalent; high school diploma preferred. At least 18 years old for radiography duties. One year of related experience preferred.
