SUMMARY OF JOB PURPOSE AND FUNCTION

The Veterinary Assistant supports veterinarians and veterinary technicians in providing quality veterinary care for pets. The role involves advocating for pets, educating clients on pet health, and maintaining a safe hospital environment.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS

• Live and exemplify the Five Principles of Mars, Inc. within self and team.
• Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians to ensure the best pet care and maximize productivity.
• Communicate effectively with team members to maintain smooth workflow.
• Provide professional, efficient, and exceptional service, including preparing procedures, ensuring client and pet comfort, and monitoring hospitalized or surgical pets as permitted by state law.
• Educate clients about wellness plans, preventive care, and hospital services.
• Obtain and document relevant client and pet health information.
• Maintain safety and cleanliness in treatment areas, exam rooms, and labs.
• Assist with surgical procedures as applicable.
• Utilize technical skills within state regulations and NAVTA guidelines.
• Mentor other paraprofessionals in the hospital.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
