Job summary

Alta Vista Animal Hospital in Montrose, CO, is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to join our team and enhance client and patient experiences during exams and outpatient visits.

You will support exam room workflow, maintain medical records, and assist veterinarians with procedures while educating clients and ensuring compassionate care for all patients.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience as veterinary assistant, animal care, kennel assistant, or related role preferred.
  • Safe animal handling and restraint for dogs/cats/pocket pets of varying sizes.
  • Experience collecting patient histories, weights, vital signs, and documenting treatment details.
  • Ability to administer oral medications and follow clinical protocols.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.

Job description

Alta Vista Animal Hospital is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to join our team and help create exceptional experiences for clients and patients during exams and outpatient visits.

We are seeking an outgoing veterinary assistant who thrives in client engagement, schedule coordination, and multitasking. In this position, you will play a critical role in supporting efficient hospital operations, creating positive client experiences, and ensuring patients receive compassionate, high-quality care. Success in this role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, a proactive mindset, and the ability to anticipate the needs of both the veterinary team and clients throughout the patient visit.

Responsibilities Include
  • Supporting efficient exam room and outpatient workflow to ensure exceptional patient and client care
  • Maintaining accurate, thorough medical records and treatment documentation
  • Reviewing treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions with clients clearly and compassionately
  • Supporting veterinarians during outpatient procedures and treatments while providing high-quality patient care
  • Building positive relationships with clients through education, communication, and attentive service
In this position, you will take an active role in:
  • Supporting efficient exam room and outpatient care
  • Providing safe, gentle patient handling and stress‑free restraint during outpatient and procedural care
  • Preparing patients, equipment, and treatment areas for appointments
  • Maintaining accurate medical records and treatment documentation
  • Reviewing treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions with clients clearly and compassionately
  • Building positive client relationships through education, communication, and attentive service
  • Maintaining clean, organized, and fully prepared exam rooms, treatment areas, and procedural spaces
Schedule And Compensation
  • Compensation: $18 - $20 per hour, for each hour worked
  • This is a full‑time position, with a 4/10 schedule and availability needed Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and possibly half days on Saturdays.

Minimum Qualifications And Skill Set
  • 2+ years of experience in a veterinary assistant, animal care, kennel assistant, or related role preferred
  • Proficiency in the following skills:
    • Safe animal handling and restraint skills for dogs, cats, and pocket pets of varying sizes and temperaments
    • Ability to assist with exams, treatments, and outpatient procedures
    • Experience collecting patient histories and obtaining patient weights and vital signs
    • Administer oral medications
    • Ability to maintain accurate medical records and treatment documentation
    • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established protocols
    • Ability to prioritize tasks and multitask in a fast‑paced environment
    • Compassionate, professional communication with clients and team members
    • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
