Job summary

Truesdell Animal Care Hospital in Madison, WI is seeking a part-time Veterinary Assistant to support veterinarians, technicians, and staff in delivering high-quality animal care.

You will assist during examinations and procedures, handle and restrain animals safely, maintain rooms, perform basic lab tests, and support client communication. Hours are 2-3 days per week with 24-32 hours of work each week.

Qualifications

• 1+ year veterinary assistant experience.
• Technical know-how in disinfection, administering medication, and using diagnostic equipment.
• Physical ability to handle animals safely and compassionately.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians and vet techs during examinations, treatments, and surgeries.
• Handle and restrain animals safely and compassionately.
• Prepare examination rooms and surgical areas by cleaning and sterilizing equipment.
• Perform basic laboratory tests, such as collecting blood, urine, and stool samples.
• Administer medications and vaccinations under the supervision of a veterinarian.
• Feed, bathe, and exercise animals as needed.
• Maintain accurate medical records.
• Communicate with pet owners about care, treatment plans, and follow-up visits.
• Clean and maintain the clinic, including stocking supplies and ensuring a safe environment.

Truesdell Animal Care Hospital is hiring a part-time Veterinary Assistant to work alongside our team of experienced veterinarians, skilled technicians, and devoted support staff to ensure each animal receives the best possible care during their stay with us. Salary: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour, determined by the candidate's skills, experience, and qualifications.

Schedule: Part-time, 2-3 days per week, averaging 24-32 hours per week, with a typical Monday/Tuesday/Friday schedule or rotating days based on coverage needs. 8-10-hour shifts with a lunch break. Hours fall between7:30 AM-8:00 PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and7:30 AM-6:00 PM on other days.
