Job summary

Brunswick Forest Veterinary Hospital in Leland, NC is seeking a dependable Veterinary Assistant to join a supportive, collaborative team dedicated to high-quality medicine.

As part of an AAHA-accredited hospital, you will assist doctors and technicians, restrain patients, prep rooms, and help with procedures while maintaining compassionate client communication.

Qualifications

• Previous veterinary assistant or animal care experience preferred.
• Comfortable handling dogs and cats safely.
• Strong communication and client service skills.
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
• Willingness to learn and develop veterinary skills.
• Dependable, positive, and team-oriented.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians and technicians during appointments, treatments, and procedures.
• Safely restrain and handle dogs and cats.
• Prepare exam rooms and treatment areas for appointments and procedures.
• Assist with surgical preparation and patient recovery.
• Support blood draws, laboratory sample collection, and diagnostic testing.
• Assist with radiographs and other diagnostic procedures.
• Administer medications and treatments under supervision.
• Monitor and provide basic nursing care for hospitalized patients.
• Maintain clean and organized hospital areas.
• Communicate professionally with clients.
• Maintain accurate patient records.
• Collaborate with doctors, technicians, and assistants to ensure smooth operations.

What You'll Do

Responsibilities

As a Veterinary Assistant, you'll support our doctors and technicians while helping provide excellent care to our patients. Responsibilities may include:

• Assist veterinarians and technicians during appointments, treatments, and procedures
• Safely restrain and handle dogs and cats
• Prepare exam rooms and treatment areas for appointments and procedures
• Assist with surgical preparation and patient recovery
• Support blood draws, laboratory sample collection, and diagnostic testing
• Assist with radiographs and other diagnostic procedures
• Administer medications and treatments under the direction of the veterinary team
• Monitor and provide basic nursing care for hospitalized patients
• Clean, disinfect, and maintain treatment, surgical, and patient areas
• Communicate professionally and compassionately with clients
• Maintain accurate patient information and medical records
• Work closely with doctors, technicians, and fellow assistants to keep the hospital running smoothly

What We're Looking For

• Previous veterinary assistant or animal care experience preferred
• Comfortable safely handling and restraining dogs and cats
• Strong communication and client service skills
• Ability to multitask and stay organized in a fast-paced environment
• Willingness to learn and continue developing veterinary skills
• Dependable, positive, and team-oriented
• Comfortable assisting with cleaning and maintaining hospital areas as needed
