Overview

The Veterinary Assistant is a key member of the hospital team who supports and assists veterinarians and veterinary technicians, ensuring the safety of pets, clients, and other associates while maintaining the continuity of quality veterinary care.

Responsibilities
  • Provide professional, efficient, and exceptional service to clients and pets.
  • Use technical skills on a daily basis in accordance with state practice acts and NAVTA guidelines for veterinary assistant duties.
  • Help maintain the flow of patients.
  • Communicate with veterinarians and veterinary technicians.
  • Carry out or set up procedures that do not require veterinarian or veterinary technician assistance.
  • Adhere to hospital standards that keep pets safe, and keep treatment areas, exam rooms, and labs clean and organized.
  • Educate clients about Optimum Wellness Plans and the importance of preventive care.
  • Mentor other members of the hospital team.
Qualifications
  • Certificate of completion from a NAVTA‑approved veterinary assistant program or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
  • Must be able to perform all required skills of a NAVTA‑approved veterinary assistant program at a level that aids in the efficiency of the practice.

Pay Range

$15.00 – $18.39 per hour, based on experience, skill level, and education, and may vary with location or minimum wage laws.
